There’s no place like Western Days

Elgin’s 54th annual celebration of community and camaraderie continues to grow, with residents and visitors gathering at Memorial Park this past weekend for three full days of events, vendors and familiar. This year’s rendition of Elgin’s homecoming fair and festival, organized by the Chamber of Commerce, brought a bit more to the greenery than years prior. With a Wizard of Oz flair, Western Days included a yellow brick road fashion show, great Oz golf tournament and Toto’s dance, concluding with the grand parade and vendor market.

Alfred Robert Streit served in the 915th Field Artillery Battalion that came ashore on Utah Beach, Normandy, in June 1944. They were called the “Tough Hombres Combat Team” and they fought in five campaigns in 318 days between Normandy and Czechoslovakia.

AUSTIN – A dynamic duo of Elgin High School varsity softball players had the outstanding honor of being named to the Austin American-Statesman All-Central Texas team this week. Senior standouts Paiton Altmiller and Jessica Cantrell of the Lady Wildcats were both selected for the team.
