BASTROP – Historic downtown Bastrop held its holiday market and parade this past weekend, with thousands of visitors coming out to ring in the holidays.
Leland “Lee” Ray Pannell, 73, of Elgin, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2023.
Edward Perez, 73, of Elgin, passed away peacefully Dec. 2.
Rose Marie (Raschke) Travis went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023, at the age of 63.
Jimmy Bryan Beauchamp, age 70, of Elgin passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 8, 2023. He was born Oct. 24, 1953, in Austin, and was the second son of James and Lorene Beauchamp.
Joyce Elaine Snell, 95, of Elgin passed away Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023.
SCHULENBURG – The Smithville High School boys varsity basketball team went on the road Tuesday, Dec. 5 and the Tigers got a key 47-38 victory over Schulenburg High School.
The Elgin High School boys varsity basketball team was able to continue its strong start to the 2023-24 regular season, as the Wildcats picked up a 54-49 victory at home Dec. 4 over Cedar Park Vista Ridge High School. The Wildcats also got victories Dec. 7 over Manor New Tech High School and Austin Royals HomeSchool at the Taylor Tournament.
BURNET – The Cedar Creek High School boys varsity basketball team came up just short Friday, Dec. 8 as the Eagles fell 62-54 on the road against Burnet High School.
BASTROP – The Cedar Creek and Bastrop High School girls varsity basketball teams squared off Tuesday, Dec. 5 at Cedar Creek High School in the 5A-District 23 opener for both teams and the Lady Eagles used a big second half to beat the Lady Bears by a score of 58-33.
TAYLOR – The Bastrop High School boys varsity basketball team under Head Coach Eric Woods competed last week at the Taylor Tournament and won in its opening game 60-32 in dominant fashion over Austin Royals Homeschool.
