LEANDER – The Elgin High School varsity baseball team was in action March 7-9 at the Leander ISD Tournament hosted by Glenn High School and was highly competitive all weekend.

GATESVILLE – The Smithville High School boys varsity powerlifting team was in action Saturday, March 9 at the Boys Region 2 Division 2 meet held at Gatesville High School. The Tigers had three lifters qualify for the upcoming state meet in their respective weight classes after competing in the squat, bench press and deadlift.

SMITHVILLE – Smithville Independent School District announced this past week the hiring of Layne Neumann as the new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach for the 2024-25 school year.

The Elgin High School varsity boys and girls track and field teams competed Thursday, March 7 as the school hosted the Wildcat Relays meet.

The Elgin High School varsity softball team began 5A-District 23 play this past week as the Lady Wildcats traveled to take on Georgetown East View High School and hosted Pflugerville Connally High School.

JOSHUA – The Elgin High School boys varsity powerlifting team was in action Saturday, March 9 at the Boys Region 2 Division 1 meet held at Joshua High School. The Wildcats had four lifters qualify for the upcoming state meet in their respective weight classes after competing in the squat, bench press and deadlift.

For a third consecutive year, the Elgin High School girls varsity powerlifting team won the 5A-2 Region 2 championship with nine standout Lady Wildcats headed to the state tournament.

The Elgin High School girls varsity basketball team had several players who were named to the 5A-District 23 all-district team.

BUDA – The Elgin High School girls varsity softball team competed last week at a tournament held in Buda and went 4-1 over three days.

DEL VALLE – The Elgin High School boys varsity powerlifting team had a strong performance Saturday, Feb. 24, as the Wildcats won the Del Valle Cardinal Invitational meet after competing in the squat, bench press and deadlift.

Four Elgin High School boys varsity basketball players were named to the 5A-District 23 all-district team. Wildcats senior standout Nathen Lewis was a first-team selection for Elgin and was also named as an academic all-district award winner.
