SMITHVILLE – The Smithville Independent School District community recently supported a student in mourning.

The Elgin High School varsity football team jumped on Pflugerville High School early and often Oct. 20 during the Wildcats’ dominant 44-17 victory over the Panthers on senior night.

The Elgin High School varsity volleyball team played two of its best 5A-District 23 matches of the 2023 season this past week despite them resulting in losses Oct. 17 at Bastrop High School and at home Oct. 20 against Pflugerville High School for senior night.

HUNTSVILLE – The Cedar Creek High School boys varsity cross country team was represented at a very high level Monday, Oct. 23 as Eagles senior standout runner Alejandro Ruiz was the lone entry for the program at the 5A Region 3 championship meet held on the campus of Sam Houston State University at Kate Barr Ross Memorial Park in Hunstville.

BASTROP – The Cedar Creek High School varsity volleyball team continues to battle this 2023 season in 5A-District 23 as the Lady Eagles played a pair of very important district matches this past week.

LOCKHART – The Bastrop High School varsity football team fought hard but came up just short last Friday night as the Bears were defeated 28-17 on the road against 5A-2 District 13 foe Lockhart High School.

CORPUS CHRISTI – McDade High School varsity cross country had three student-athletes run Monday, Oct. 23 at the 1A Region 4 championship meet held on the campus of Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer and Track Stadium.

SMITHVILLE – The Smithville High School varsity football team put up a resilient effort last Friday as the Tigers were edged 45-33 at home against Gonzales High School.

BASTROP – The Bastrop High School varsity volleyball team enters its final week of the 2023 regular season as the Lady Bears started the previous week with a three-set sweep Oct. 17 at home against Elgin High School.

WACO – The Elgin High School varsity football team came up just short Friday night as the Wildcats were edged 27-23 on the road at University High School in Waco.

GEORGETOWN – Elgin High School, Cedar Creek High School and Bastrop High School varsity cross country were all in action Oct. 12 for the 5A-District 23 meet hosted by Georgetown East View High School.

The Elgin High School varsity volleyball team had a pair of home 5A-District 23 matches this past week as the Lady Wildcats hosted Georgetown High School Oct. 10 and Cedar Creek High School last Friday night.
