Bastrop County has regular-season volleyball games back in action this week as the Elgin High School, Bastrop High School, Cedar Creek High School, Smithville High School and McDade High School varsity programs are ready to compete.

BASTROP – A scorching hot month wrapped up with a bang last week as Bastrop hosted its annual Bears Youth Football Camp on July 25-27 at Erhard Field.

BASTROP COUNTY – Elgin High School, Bastrop High School, Cedar Creek High School and Smithville High School will all have their varsity volleyball programs in action this week as the UIL will allow the first day for scrimmages beginning Friday.

ROUND ROCK – On July 21, Jacklete Fitness and TurnFit Academy hosted a first-of-its-kind football event in Round Rock.

TAYLOR – Last week, the EYFC Wildcats hosted a youth cheer camp in preparation for the fall season which begins Aug. 1.

BASTROP – Bastrop Independent School District is concluding a scorching hot month of July as both Bastrop and Cedar Creek will have their final youth athletic camps of the summer.

BASTROP COUNTY – Smithville Independent School District and McDade Independent School District are both staying busy with football as the Smithville Tigers and McDade Bulldogs have upcoming important dates.

DALLAS – The city of Elgin proudly made its way into the 2023 MLB Draft on Tuesday, July 11 when former Wildcats baseball standout Jace Grady was selected in the 11th round by the Atlanta Braves at No. 339 overall.

ARLINGTON – Elgin High School varsity football was represented over the weekend as junior defensive back Noddyn Bailey attended the Junior Day Football National Showcase camp on July 16 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

PFLUGERVILLE – Jacklete Fitness Elgin 10U team competed in the Pflugerville Football Academy League and end-of-season tournament this Spring and Summer. This team is made up of third and fourth-graders from the Elgin area.

BASTROP – Kids returned to athletic camps this past week as Bastrop hosted its annual Lady Bear Youth Volleyball Camp from July 10-13 at Bastrop Middle School.

SELMA – The 2023 Quarter Horse live racing season kicks off on Thursday, June 29 and despite the nationally reported heatwave in Texas, the enthusiasm is high for the 23-day meet. Post time is set for 6:15 pm with the season concluding on Saturday, August 19.
